Week 7: O+S Ice Cream Dress

YAY maybe I'm finally out of my sewing funk. I broke this dress into 3 days only sewing less than 30 minutes each day (not including cutting the fabric). I made this for my cousin's baby. The solid lime fabric I had in my scraps and the beautiful print was from Renee. I can't wait to see this worn!! YIPEE

Week 6 Birthday Surprise :) Pincushion Ring

I had to wait to post this so the birthday girl would not see it. I made a polymer clay purple tomato pincushion ring. I wish I would have taken a picture of the packaging!!! It made me scream. It was so much fun to make and I was so happy that it made it to her in ONE piece :)

Week 6? Wow Am I ever late

Hello all! It's been a rough few weeks trying to get things back on track. I'd like to share that I have my own sewing room in the new house YIPPEE. So here I go, my most recent creations as of last night/early am ;-)

These Burpies were made earlier ;-)

This Chenille lined Burpie was her freebie. She scored on this one. I wanted to test that train design

I really need to order some more tags but the place I used to get them from no longer does them. I've been making my own for about a month. It's awful. Embroidering them on Twill tape. Check out the last photo. While I think it looks okay, it's too much of a pain. SO any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks.

I'm going to try to catch up on what everyone's been creating!

Week 5 - Massive Owl Pendant!

I had my eye appointment on Friday and I am finally getting lenses in the vintage Dior frames that I ordered off of Etsy last year. I should get them back in about a week. (I am so excited) Inspired by the oversize frames I decided to try to make an oversize owl pendant using polymer clay. The eyes are red Swarvoski's left over from the necklace from week 4. I brushed the entire thing with black oil pastel to give it a vintage feel before varnishing. She's huge and I love her.

Overall I had a pretty productive weekend... made several hats and a little something else. ;)

My second 'minion' (from Despicable Me) attempt.

And this little guy was actually meant to be a monkey at first... but ended up looking more like a bear... so he's a bear!!

Week 2 & 3

I got a late start and missed week one.

Over the weekend I was on my way to take a bath and I got distracted by a recent ad for Black Swan and my overwhelming supply of makeup. (Temptaion won!)

My nephew turns 13 years old today!!!! He requested that I make him two T-shirts. I hope that he likes them....

(I used 2 cotton T-shirts & Fabric Markers. I looked up images on the internet for inspiration and drew these freehand. I started out not liking Godzilla but ended up liking him more then the robots).

What is next? I have the supplies to make a necklace for Mr. C's mom and I have got to get started on my GaGa costume. I'm still on the search for some supplies.... (hmmmm think bad 80's prom dress with big shoulders in black or red or any combination of in my size....)

We have been searching the thrift stores and Ebay. If I do not find it soon I'll be making the entire thing from scratch.

I can't wait to see everyone's creations!!! :D Happy 2011.

My first submission!!

So I am a total newbie to submitting my Creative Challenge Projects!! Woot! I am excited to get motivated and fully participate this year! Who's with me?!?!?

My project tonight was a Sock Monkey inspired pouch for my Blackberry! Isn't it cute?!?! The sad thing is that this project took me the same time to make as it does to make a newborn hat. (It has a tiny button on the back for closure.) It seems I've been going all kinds of sock monkey crazy lately. :|

What kind of crafty have you been lately? Hmmmm? We all want to know... and we know you're just dying to tell us. Right?!?!

I found this TUTORIAL on Gussys blog for Finger Knitting and it ROCKS! You must try it!

So after I made my Pink one I decided to make on out of a variegated yarn....and I kinda got carried away while I was watching TV and now I have 4 LOL!

As for clothing...from Top Left Corner: Victorian Halter Dress, Rock Out Tie, Eric Clapton Dress, Pretty Girl Bib, Juicy Couture Bib, Elmo Shirt, Leopard ruffled leg warmers, No Doubt Set, Lady GaGa Dress, Speedracer Dress and I put new sleeves on a onesie for a customer :)

2011 Challenge!!!!

Last year was VERY challenging, rewarding and inspiring! After all of the feedback we thought it would be awesome to start up a new challenge! I have been giving it a lot of thought and thought it would be great to have different ways to start up the challenge for 2011.

First of all I've got a few more projects that I am working on including putting together a project on last years challenge and on my recent vacation to Paris! :) Also I would really like to give my shop an honest shot of success. ;) I also thought more people would join in on the fun if they could see the flexibility!

The 2011 Challenge will start on January 3, 2011. You need to sign up for a Blogger account :)

It's not as tidy on the inside as I would like it to be but it's a freebie so maybe the purchaser won't complain. I hate hate putting zippers. I think I may add a wallet to this package and a key fob. Depends on how I feel later. My leg is killing me because I overdid it yesterday

I'll be adding simple totes too because I have a really cool "Courage, Love & Hope" Awareness ribbon to embroider but the covers are way too small to put it on. I'm excited about this. If they sell well I will also update on our $$ progress on my blog regularly so people can see it's no scam LOL

Diva decided she was Superdawg and tried to fly onto the bed. As you see this did not end so well for her eye and about gave me a heart attack! She is fine though. Actually this morning she was acting like her normal self again. Of course there is a lot of dye in this picture but she has bruising around her eye and an abrasion on her cornea.

After the vet's office we spent the rest of the evening cuddled together watching, "When the Levee's Broke" 1-2 & 3-4 and, "If God is Willing and Da Creek Don't Rise"

Eric brought me this tee today and I LOVE it! I've decided to give someone the opportunity to choose the style and size!

This was a custom order that I did today...the pic is terrible but the skirt is way cute. I put pink stripes down both sides and made it bubble slightly and the NY is all glittery! its awesome!

I think I am going to actually "hire" my husband as my marketing man :-) He went to a birthday party today and I loaded him up with business cards. I made the birthday girl a headband and he called me to tell me the mommies went nuts when they saw the present and they want one for their girls. So he gave them a business card. Hehehe....Anyway made this, this morning.

But I have to do over that pink one then it's off to Australia with some flowers on Monday The "K" looks awful. I tried to mix fonts. Boo me.

And of course my so-so bodysuit. I swear that space is driving me nuts but we'll see. It's such a darn pain to hoop these small items. I'm not sure I like it. I have a bunch of bodysuits so I better get to work with some kind of cutesy words ;-) I hate having things just sitting in the house doing nothing.

I took a few photos at Days Coffee in the Highlands yesterday. I'm glad we decided to stop in . I think it is a new favorite place.

We walked around a little while before my hair appointment. We had also stopped in Ultra Pop. I love that place!!! I picked up a Mark Ryden's The Tree Show (While we were sitting in a cozy booth in Days I had to immediately rip the plastic off the new book so I could smell it.... new book smell, I love it almost as much as really, really, really old book smell xoxoxo)

I already had a migraine. :(

I had hoped to walk around after my hair appointment and enjoy dinner in the area but instead it was a short drive home and into bed.

Day 332 Earring Frame

My wonderful friend (like a sis) Ash made me a beautiful earring frame for Christmas. I ruined by getting it wet a few weeks back. Tonight I decided to make a new background and then have Mr. C hang it on the wall (under a painting I did a few years back out of the frame is the top painting of the moon) so I wouldn't knock it in the sink again.

I found a silhouette that I admired of birds on a wire and tried to interpret it with permanent marker on paper. I then added a tree limb and other grasses in. I really like how it turned out. :)

Day 329 Watermelon Smoothie

This is SUPER, refreshing, delightfully chilling and I have perfect for these humid summer nights we have been having! Our wonderful neighbor Celeste sent some watermelon home with Mr. C the other night. I am usually do not like melon but this last year I have really been wanting give them another try.

Here is my recipe for 1 or 2.
1 cup of seedless watermelon (or watermelon with the seeds removed)
6-7 ice cubes
1 teaspoon Splenda
1/2 teaspoon to 1 TBS Lemon Juice
Small sprinkle of sea salt (a seriously small pinch)
1/4 Cup water (enough to keep the blades from locking up on the blender)

I put all of the ingredients in the blender except the ice cubes. I put them in two at a time. I pulse only. Continue to pulse until all ice is in tiny bits and everything is blended.

I can't wait to try this with some lime and mint!!!

WARNING: Vent coming-----This week has really been rough. My husband has been getting me loads of business so I have been working on those orders. He said he wants a cut of the $$ haha what a joker. He also needs me to make like umpteen hard hat visor neck shades for people at the construction sites. Had a test run but need to improve. All his worker friends putting in orders and I don't even have the fabric yet or mastered the product. He's been telling people, "my wife can make anything just let me know what you want" Uhm not...I'm so stressed

There was "Hoop drama" in the wee hours of the morning. LOL Yesterday I went out to purchase a 4" by 4" hoop for Ms. B. as she only came with a 5" x 7" Well you know how I don't like to measure stuff and it works out fine most times. I completely forgot to check some grid thingy that came in the box that helps you with positioning, so you could make sure you don't hit the hoop with the needle when you change the default position of whatever your're going to embroider. Yes friends. Lucky I didn't walk away from the machine and got it as soon as the needle hit the hoop and broke. Anyway after fixing that, I made this. Yay me! I hope I didn't damage my poor girl

My husband has been marketing the heck out of my products to all his friends and his mechanic's daughter came over to the house this morning, bought my favourite Sexygirl apron (the one that I'm wearing one of of my FB profile pics), got some earrings and some hair flowers. My measurements on this bag was initially off. I was going to put it on sale but it bothered me so much to not have a perfect bag in this fabric that I ripped in out this morning and fixed it. I started working on these on Saturday. The first one's were horrific. I was going to dig them out of the trash to take a picture but Mr. C had already dumped the sewing basked when he emptied the rest of the trash. Tomorrow I'll scan all of my pattern drafts. They are pretty funny. Even tonight after it took me forever to get the thumb in I decided to cut all of the little, "fingerlettes" off! :D

I love the single glove..... tomorrow I'll tackle it's mate. These are to go with the grey scarf that Mr. C is finishing up for me. (Thank you Mr. C.... the master unravel-er, HA!)

Yesterday I had a lot on my mind and I wasn't feeling well so I thought I would escape into my own world and sew. Seeing Renee Saturday inspired me to drag out some bright fabric and sew Lil O and Baby M some skirts. Renee told me about making them with elastic but since I was tooo lazy to leave the house yesterday to buy elastic so instead I made them drawstring.

Here's the fabric ~ purple floral, a back to school funky print, a purple, teddy bears and Noah's Ark.

My very first one. This floral print was see through so I paired it with some white fabric underneath.

Then I moved on to make one for Baby M. After I made the bear skirt she hugged me and told me I was her best friend EVER!!!

Day 314 Sewing mishaps and other fun stuff

Last nights mishaps made me laugh really, really hard and had me walking around the living room like a penguin and literally rolling around on the floor laughing hence the wrinkled fabric in the first photo.
Okay the shorter, "outer" fabric, the BEAUTIFUL, fabric from Renee was meant to be a skirt for moi. Ahem I didn't not account the need for extra fabric prior to adding elastic... basically this it fit from my ankles to my knees. It originally was longer than the lining fabric. Now I will either shorten the lining and if it fits my niece. OR I will cut it up and add black and green panels and still make a skirt for myself. (Thank you Makayla for modeling this morning)

Infinity scarf for my Paris trip ;) This fabric was also from Renee's fabric stash! I'm so in love with it!!!! This project was also pretty funny watching me trying to turn it right side out, pulling, and pulling, and pulling, and pulling, and pulling (still not so sure what happened there).

I pulled out the crooked top stitching above the piping. It was driving me nuts. It is no longer crooked and I am so happy about it! :)

Mr. C actually helped unravel all of these ends except for one!!! It was funny he would stop me every few minutes and say, "tie" or, "knot this".

The other end still needs to be unraveled. I finished a seam with a matching thread about a 1/2 inch on the long sides so that when I wash it the black threads will unravel. This fabric is so super soft.

I love everything about Brocade except sewing with it. UGH...the slipperiness drives me nuts. When the idea came to me, I immediately did an Etsy search for Brocade checkbook covers and there was NONE. Well 1 person's item came up but it was Brocade print paper covered in vinyl so NONE. Now that I am done I know why I'm the only dummy who did this hehehe

Here is the Ice Cream Dress for DJ Nave's little girl! I love the colors :) I'm so excited. I a few more things to gather up before I put the package in the mail on Friday. Then away it goes to Japan! :D

It was my first time sewing with swiss dot. I've been dying to all year. I didn't realize that it was so transparent so chocolate may have not been the best color choice. (You can see where I joined the yoke and the bodice together). I still think it turned out super cute. I hope she enjoys it and has fun wearing it!

Everyone has been busy on here!!! Which is VERY exciting because I've been in kind of a funk since my niece went home. Hmmmm just the inspirational kick in the patoosh that I needed. ;)

You know I love all things Polka Dots so I made this. I was going to keep it since the husband and I have a date on Saturday but I am thinking I may put it for sale. If I do, it will be a set that come with handbag, checkcover, key fob and maybe a separate business card holder or pocket case.

I expected disaster and it came out nice. It's my first time using fleece interfacing and I thought Ms. K (my machine) wouldn't be able to handle it LOL

Anyway, I had to share this one. She left a little note in the message to seller that it was for her mom. I've had these rings for ever and knew they would come in handy.

Mr. C gave my niece a cork board for her room. She didn't have any thumbtacks so to continue our cupcake weekend we just finished making cupcake thumbtacks.

I made yellow cake with Strawberry frosting (my favorite cake in real life) and she chose chocolate cake with chocolate frosting (her favorite).

The niece and I painted cuppies!!!

We went to, "The Paint Spot" in Saint Matthews. Right around the corner from the apartment. We had such a great time. (minus the rude guy who #1 belittled the little girl that was with him for spilling water..... this continued for quite awhile, #2 as they were getting ready to leave he walked her (4 at the oldest) over to the table and pointed at my niece's hair and asked if she was going to get her hair that color. (Her hair was naturally red...she whispered it's pretty in a barely audible voice). Who get's mad about spilled water? Spilled anything really? I'm sure he has spilled something before in his lifetime.

Day 302 K&Guurrrl's Banana Moon Pie Cuppies

These cupcakes were inspired by banana moon pies!

Banana Buttercream Frosting:
1/4 C Butter
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 C Smashed Bananas
1/4 tsp white vinegar
3-1/2 C Powdered Sugar

Blend butter, salt, bananas, and vinegar. Add sugar by 1/2 cups at a time until frosting is smooth. Cover and refrigerate until ready to decorate.

We used a store bought Yellow Cake mix and made according to mfg. directions. If you want to make from scratch here is a GREAT recipe.

We also used marshmallow fluff. (I didn't buy enough sugar). Here is a recipe I had in my collection for homemade marshmallow cream:
3 egg whites
2 C light corn syrup
1/2 tsp salt
2C powdered sugar
1TBS Vanilla

Beat egg whites until soft peaks, add the other ingredients until smooth, mix vanilla in at the end.

Graham Cracker Crust:
Crush about 20 graham crackers to fine crumbs. Pour over a stick of melted butter. Press about 1 TBS of the mixture into the bottom of each cupcake liner to make a bottom crust.

Bake cupcakes according to mfg instructions. Let cool completely. We used a pizza cutter handle to punch holes in the cupcake. Put marshmallow cream in piping bag and fill each hole. Decorate any way you want with the banana buttercream frosting. :) This frosting is very light to be a buttercream and the bananas really stand out.

I had planned on working on a bracelet last night but a migraine came along to hang out with me.

I did take a couple of iPhone shots of Diva while laying in the bed.

I get to pick up the niece tonight. It will be a creative weekend!

I LOVE The bday party set and I LOVE the new striped tie - the colors remind me of shag carpet fro the 70s :) hee hee!
